Jasper's Catering develops new gluten free products and menus
This week is Coeliac Awareness week. The aim of this year’s campaign ‘The Gluten Freevolution’ is for catering providers to provide better gluten free options for customers: https://www.coeliac.org.uk/get-involved/the-gluten-freevolution-campaign/aims-of-the-gluten-freevolution/
Jasper’s Food Development Team (which includes a diagnosed Coeliac) have been working on a number of changes to advance Jasper’s gluten free menus and products in 2017.
Coeliac disease is a lifelong autoimmune disease, which is triggered by eating gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley and rye. It affects at least 1 in 100 people in the UK and Europe, however only about 24% of people with the condition are clinically diagnosed.
There are serious health problems that can be associated with undiagnosed Coeliac disease including osteoporosis, cancer of the small bowel and increased risk of other autoimmune diseases. The only way to manage the disease is to follow a gluten free diet for life, which means cutting out flour-based foods such as breads, pasta, cereals, cakes and biscuits. Gluten is also found in many favourite foods such as fish fingers, sausages, gravies, sauces, stock cubes and soy sauce. Luckily the range of gluten free alternatives for these foods is now considerable, with consumers enjoying improved choice from supermarkets and many restaurants.
Jasper’s has been working to make a number of changes that will see it introduce more gluten free choice for customers in 2017. We have been working with our national suppliers to create new marinades for our chicken skewers that are gluten free and will replace the previous marinades used in our finger foods. We are also introducing two new vegetarian and gluten free finger foods that will be coming soon to our Classic Buffet Catering menus.
In addition, we have created two new individual gluten free platters of sandwiches on gluten free bread plus finger foods; as well as individual salad boxes.
Our team are also currently developing a new Bamboo bowl food menu which will consist of five nutritious, vibrant and satisfying salads, rich in protein, as well as veg, that will all be gluten free.
Director of Jasper’s Catering, Nathan Siekierski said: “We know from our knowledge of the industry and also our own customer feedback that having a range of gluten free alternatives for our customers is increasingly important. We look forward to making our new gluten free options available soon.”
